Topic: The Mind and Timing
Text: John 4:35-38
Key verse: You may say that there are still four months until harvest time. But I tell you to look, and you will see that the fields are ripe and ready to harvest. – John 4:35
Most successful people in society earned their position through hard work, determination, and a strong belief system. Our focus has been on how to develop the winning mindset, which is part of that belief system. The role of the mind to influence timing is critical to the choices that you make.
Many people identify good opportunities, but they refuse to take advantage of it because they predict the timing wrongly. The mind tells them it is not yet time for that opportunity to manifest until another person grabs it.
In our text, Jesus reveals the limiting effect of saying the wrong things to yourself about the time God will do things for you. Unconsciously, we sometimes postpone our deliverance, breakthrough, and harvest by judging our circumstances only by what we can see. The times and seasons belong to God, He can choose to shorten it for you if he pleases.
Jesus said to them, “You don’t need to know the time of those events that only the Father controls. – Acts 1:7
Some things are out of the control of man, we must acknowledge that and learn to depend on God\’s will. We must not say it must be now, neither should we postpone what God can do in our minds. David understood this fact so he never struggled to force anyone to make him king. Instead, his heart was focused on pleasing God and giving him worship.
My life, my every moment, my destiny—it’s all in your hands. So I know you can deliver me from those who persecute me relentlessly*. – Psalm 31:15
When we measure our effort and we conclude that we are undeserving of harvest at a particular time we are working on a wrong mindset. God can bring you into a harvest you did not labor for, it is called favor!
I sent you to harvest where you didn’t plant; others had already done the work, and now you will get to gather the harvest.” – John 4:38
Many people live with the wrong mindset that they must earn God’s blessings or gifts, that is wrong too. Understand that grace teaches us of the generosity of God, it does not apply only to the forgiveness of sin, but to every aspect of life. Daniel reveals this secret in the scriptures.
He said, “Praise the name of God forever and ever, for he has all wisdom and power. He controls the course of world events; he removes kings and sets up other kings. He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to the scholars*. – Daniel 2:20-21 (NLT)
If God controls world events, why are you thinking in your heart and saying to yourself, my time for a breakthrough has not come? Take off the limits, spend your mental energy on pleasing God, and preparing yourself for that new season God has revealed to you he is taking you to.
Invest in yourself, get an education, acquire skills, reposition and repackage yourself, because when God speaks, nothing can stop it, it’s just a matter of time!
Write down all the things you have postponed in your mind, place them before the Lord in prayer, ask the Father to tell you what he wants you to do about them*.
May the Lord hear your prayer and unveil to you the great plans he has for your life in Jesus’ name. Amen.
