Shorter Route

Topic: Shorter Route

Text: Exodus 13: 17-18

Key verse:  When Pharaoh finally let the people go, God did not lead them along the main road that runs through Philistine territory, even though that was the shortest route to the Promised Land. God said, “If the people are faced with a battle, they might change their minds and return to Egypt.”

Finally God led Israel out of Egypt after 430 years, by his mighty arm. He led them out of slavery to the Promised Land, a land flowing with milk and honey. God always has a better place in store for his children. The path of the righteous,  shines brighter and brighter unto the perfect day. Sometimes we can get so used to pain and suffering that we cease to dream or expect anything better.

God described their destination in a way they would desire it. He envisioned them about the possibilities ahead of them. Don\’t stop dreaming, don\’t give up the vision, as long as it came from God, he is faithful to bring it to pass.

18 So God led them in a roundabout way through the wilderness toward the Red Sea. Thus the Israelites left Egypt like an army ready for battle.

God\’s way is always the best way for you, it will work out for your good ultimately. There was a shorter route, but it was going to require much battle, and God who knows our frame, knew that Israel would not be able to stand the battle and he led them through another path.

Life always presents us with options. Each choice will have consequences, immediate and eternal. The choice we make is based on our belief of what is best for us. God knew their heart, they were emotionally weak to fight, having lived as slaves for generations. He chose a longer safer path for them. Does your life look like it’s been a merry go round? Are there shorter alternatives you would have taken but the Lord restrained you? Trust the Lord, it is for your good. His choice is based on who you are and what you can take.

The process of refining different precious metals varies, so stop comparing yourself with others. Embrace God\’s will gladly. Returning back to Egypt is never in God\’s plan for his children, sometimes you hear people making threats of returning to their sinful lifestyles if God does not change their situation fast enough.

Egypt represents both earthly captivity and eternal damnation, never look back. Your better days are ahead of you in Christ. God\’s thoughts are higher than  our thoughts, Let\’s seek understanding and pursue his ways!
