Listening To God’s Voice

Topic: Listening to God’s voice

Text: Isaiah 55

Key verse:Come to me with your ears wide open. Listen and you will find life. I will make an everlasting covenant with you. I will give you all the unfailing love I promised to David”

Living by Faith is learning to hear the voice of God and trusting his leading. God created man with several organs that aid man to receive information from the outside world, but right from the garden, the woman learned to trust her eyes more than her ears.

God calls us to learn to come to him with the expectation to receive instruction, direction, and counsel daily. Life was not designed to be run on presumption; you need to know what to do, how to do it, and why it should be done. When and where all the events will take place, maybe revealed to you at different times in the conversation. You must live with open ears to God! Listen and you will find life. Life is a gift measured out to every man, listening to God gives life meaning.

The book of Ecclesiastics is full of different scenarios that King Solomon found difficult to understand about life; these are the words of the Teacher, King David’s son, who ruled in Jerusalem. Everything Is Meaningless. “Everything is meaningless,” says the Teacher, “completely meaningless!  “What do people get for all their hard work under the sun”? Take some time out and discover these questions by yourself. Solomon lacked nothing in life, everything he desired was at his disposal, yet he said…” Everything is meaningless. “

If you make life about possessions and acquisitions you will miss it. The rich also cry, they say. If you make your life about knowledge, then you will discover that knowledge is limited and cannot give you everything you seek to know when you want them. Knowledge is hidden you can take a lifetime to discover only a little about life. What then is life? The Bible reveals that life is a person; Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.” John 14:6

We proclaim to you the one who existed from the beginning, whom we have heard and seen. We saw him with our own eyes and touched him with our own hands. He is the Word of life.  This one who is life itself was revealed to us, and we have seen him. And now we testify and proclaim to you that he is the one who is eternal life. He was with the Father, and then he was revealed to us.1 John 1:1-3

Jesus identified himself as life, John the apostle wrote about him as life. The scriptures give us the key to access life. That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life. When you receive Jesus by faith into your heart, then life begins to have true meaning. I will make an everlasting covenant with you. I will give you all the unfailing love I promised to David.

Accessing and understanding life is rooted in a relationship with Jesus. Relationship with God is at different levels, not all who believe enter a covenant relationship with him. The more you are willing to live a life of surrender to him, the more he gives you access to his Life. Living by faith takes away the uncertainty of the future if you are in a covenant relationship with the source of Life and you are willing to listen to hear his voice. Jesus replied, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never be hungry again. Whoever believes in me will never be thirsty. John 6:35

Your relationship with God will be meaningful only if you learn to listen to the truth. Our education and experience can leave a sour taste on the tongue about life, but when you meet Jesus he gives meaning to the most complex and complicated issues of life because it’s all about him after all.

God’s invitation is to come and have life, eternal life, not just a type of life but eternal life.  Are you ready and willing to receive it? Start by listening to God’s voice daily. His voice is spoken in your ear and your heart.
