Topic: Hiding from service

Text: 1 Samuel 10:22-27

Key Verse: So they inquired further of the Lord, “Has the man come here yet?” And the Lord answered, “He is there, hiding himself by the provisions and supplies.” – 1 Samuel 10:22(AMP)

Hiding from the call of God on your day of commissioning can only be the result of insecurities. Even though God had anointed him in secret, given him a new heart, filled him with the spirit of God to prophesy, he still could not see himself fit for purpose. 

How do you see yourself about what God has called you to do? Are you constantly disqualifying yourself in your heart because of guilt, shame, or low self-esteem? Are you running from the task because of your inner critic, who has told you that you are just not good enough?

If you have a reason not to believe in yourself, l encourage you to accept God’s word because it is accurate and never fails. 

I have imagined what life for Saul could have been growing up, considering he had a very wealthy father who seemed good at worrying about issues. Maybe Saul was not used to affirmation but was often told how he was not good enough or never did things well enough. I also imagined that the comfort and luxury in his home may have shielded him from tasks that could have built confidence, courage, and resilience in him. It just may have been the fear of men or the fear of the future. 

These may be a few reasons why he went into hiding on the day of his commissioning.

We have heard of brides who ran away on their wedding day or men who backed out of a wedding a few days to the time today. God wants to address every lie that you have believed that has held you down from taking action on the call of God for your life. 

None of us is ever good enough; it is God who has qualified us. 

I give thanks to Christ Jesus our Lord, who has given me strength for my work. I thank him for considering me worthy and appointing me to serve him – 1 Timothy 1:12(GNT)

 Despite his education and track record, Paul never counted on himself; he instead leaned on the strength that God gives. 

Paul counseled Timothy, his protege, on dealing with this kind of challenge in 1 Timothy 4:12-16. 

“Till I come, give attendance to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine.” – 1 Timothy 4:13(KJV)

 Give yourself to teaching and study, submit yourself to fellowship and mentoring and develop the gift God has given you. 

Whether in your home, the workplace, or the ministry, rise and fulfill the call of God on your life. 

I have the strength to face all conditions by the power that Christ gives me. – Philippians 4:13 GNT

May the Lord open your eyes to see how well equipped you are for the assignment you have received in Jesus\’ name. Amen.
