Elizabeth: Courage to wait for Divine Timing

Elizabeth was from the priestly line of Aaron, and she married a priest, Zechariah. Luke testifies that they were righteous in God’s eyes, careful to obey all of the Lord’s commandments and regulations. Yet Elizabeth was unable to conceive.

When we come into faith in Christ Jesus, our past is not only forgiven and removed from our records, but we also step into God’s divine design for our lives. Our new status as children of God qualifies us to enjoy all God’s blessings. To trust God’s divine timing, cultivate gratitude, practice journaling, and seek community support, which help us remain patient and confident in His plan.

By his divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life. We have received all of this by coming to know him, the one who called us to himself by means of his marvelous glory and excellence.2Peter 1:3(NLT)

“My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the Lord. “And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine. Isaiah 55:8(NLT)

Courage to wait on God

Luke 1:39-66

Elizabeth remained full of gratitude and hope even when God visited her at a time considered late by human standards. She had borne disgrace for her childlessness, but remained a true worshipper. Her husband, a priest, continued to minister but had lost hope that the blessing of having their biological children was still a possibility.

Elizabeth reminds us that Courage is standing firm in your belief that God’s timing is perfect, no matter the outcome of your prayers.

Her Courage

  • Courage to stay in gratitude till her prayers manifested
  • Courage to trust God’s plan for her son.
  • Courage to affirm God’s work in Mary’s life, even though she was younger.

Reflection

Courage is being bold to speak up about your faith in God’s plan. It takes Courage to trust God’s will when it doesn’t match our expectations.

Being the mother of a prophet like John was a role reserved for a godly woman who would raise him in accordance with his purpose as the forerunner of Jesus. It was worth waiting for!

How does Elizabeth’s attitude while waiting on God inspire you?

  1. I’m inspired to be joyful as I wait for God to answer my numerous petitions because He’s working them and they shall manifest at the right time.
