TOPIC: THE SAVIOUR IS BORN
TEXT: LUKE 2:8-15(ERV)
KEY VERSE: Today, your Savior was born in David’s town. He is the Messiah, the Lord. LUKE 2:11(ERV)
The birth of a baby has always been a thing of joy and causes a celebration, except on rare occasions. The birth of Mary’s baby was extraordinary; it was announced by angels to shepherds! The angel’s message gave insights into who the child is and what its mission would be on earth.
The good news brought fear to the shepherds because angels delivered it. Supernatural manifestations always produce fear; that is one reason we are best suited to testify about Jesus to other humans.
The birth of this child was a solution to humanity’s problems. He was born to be a saviour, a deliverer to the people. A huge army of angels joined to praise God for the arrival of this baby whose birth would bring peace to all who please God.
You may be wondering what he came to save us from; that detail was given to Joseph when an angel appeared before he took Mary as his wife. The child was born to save us from our sins.
But after Joseph thought about this, an angel from the Lord came to him in a dream. The angel said, “Joseph, son of David, don’t be afraid to accept Mary to be your wife. The baby inside her is from the Holy Spirit. She will give birth to a son. You will name him Jesus. Give him that name because he will save his people from their sins.” Matthew 1:20-21(ERV)
Sin is man’s age-long problem; a thousand sacrifices could not cure it. The most disciplined of men, living in monasteries away from distractions, still struggled with sin. The most significant consequence of sin is the void it creates between man and God, which leads to a loss of peace.
God wants us to have peace and joy at Christmas and always. A life filled with peace will be possible when we receive the gift of a saviour sent by God. The baby born in a manger became the one who died on the Cross to pay the price of sin. John the Baptist announced it at his appearance for baptism.
The next day, John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, “Look, the Lamb of God. He takes away the sins of the world! John 1:29(ERV)
The shepherds hurried to see the baby, and they glorified God and published the news to all. We ought to do the same today if we have received the gift of God, Jesus, our saviour. Let us publish the good news to all.
All who accept this gift of a saviour will have their sins forgiven and receive the power to live godly as sons of God. They will find peace that keeps the soul amid the storms of life. Have you received this gift yet?
Father, thank you for sending us Jesus, our saviour; help all who have not known him to find him as I publish the good news. Amen
