Topic: The Mystery of Dreams
Text: Daniel 2
Key Verse: Then he said, “Pray that the God who rules from heaven will be merciful and explain this mystery so that we and the others won’t be put to death.”* – Daniel 2:18
Dreams are a powerful means of communication between the spiritual and the natural world, this makes the message a coded language sometimes. The power of a dream is unleashed when the mystery it contains is unraveled. Dreams become beneficial if it\’s message is understood and acted upon. This is only possible if it’s meaning is revealed.
The King had a dream that terrified him, but not willing to be deceived by his wise men he decided not to tell the dream, but asked them to tell him the dream and its interpretation. This is not a feat anyone can perform except by God’s supernatural intervention.
…because you know what’s going to happen if you don’t come up with the answer. You’ve decided to make up a bunch of lies, hoping I might change my mind. Now tell me the dream, and that will prove that you can interpret it.
– Daniel 2:9
The wise men of Babylon acknowledged that the ability to know and interpret dreams is what only the gods can do. Glory be to God that we have access to God because He dwells in us and can give us the ability to know this mystery when we ask him. (Daniel 2:10-11)
Daniel in our key verse reveals that prayer is the right response to dreams. God is the only one who can know the dream a man has and it’s meaning, this implies that man must learn to seek God for the revelation of the message of the dream through prayers.
The mind will rely on previous knowledge to provide an interpretation of the dream but this can be misleading, your biases and sentiments can color your accurate assessment of the symbols contained in the dream.
You must be careful not to lean on your understanding, but seek God for the implication of the dream and the right course of action to take.
With all your heart you must trust the Lord and not your own judgment*. – Proverbs 3:5
Sometimes, dreams are the revelation of the future, it may be given to you as a matter of information, just like in our text, but at other times it may require a course of action. In Genesis, the dream Pharoah had was to occur in the future, but Joseph received an understanding to respond to the dream by planning and preparation. If you fail to take the right steps, a dream may never be fulfilled. Genesis 40:32-36
When dreams reveal an event that will occur in the future, they are also for intercession. When a dream reveals a loss, accident, or death, it is for prayer because God has no pleasure in the death of the wicked but rather salvation.
Tell them that as surely as I am the living Lord God, I don’t like to see wicked people die. I enjoy seeing them turn from their sins and live. So if the Israelites want to live, they must stop sinning and turn back to me. – Ezekiel 33:11
“I looked for someone who might rebuild the wall of righteousness that guards the land. I searched for someone to stand in the gap in the wall so I wouldn’t have to destroy the land, but I found no one.- Ezekiel 22:30
When dreams reveal promotion and blessings we need to pray them into manifestation, seeking God to know what our roles might be to bring it to pass, or to put him in remembrance to perform what has been revealed. (Luke 2:36-38, Job 22:27-28)
May your Kingdom come; may you will be done on earth as it is in heaven.* – Matthew 6:10
Whatever is revealed through dreams must conform with what the scriptures say. We pray for God\’s will in every situation because God desires our blessing and prosperity at all times.
Spend some time in prayer today concerning your dreams especially those that have been recurring. May the Lord who is gracious and merciful, open our eyes and enlighten our minds with the interpretation of the dreams that concern our destiny in Jesus’ name. Amen.
