Topic: The Inheritance Is A Promise

Key Verse: He gave him no inheritance in it, not even space for one foot; yet he promised to give it to him as a possession and to his descendants after him, even though at the time he was childless. ACTS 7:5 (CJB)

In our key verse, Stephen spoke before the council when he was accused falsely by men who could not stand his wisdom. We thank the Lord that this created an opportunity for him to deliver a very detailed account of our faith beginning from the call of Abraham.

Stephen recounted the call of Abraham and how he obeyed the Lord and moved to Haran; then, he made a profound statement.

So he left the land of the Kasdim and lived in Haran. After his father died, God made him move to this land where you are living now. He gave him no inheritance in it, not even space for one foot, yet he promised to give it to him as a possession and to his descendants after him, even though at the time he was childless. Acts 7:4-5

The inheritance was a promise; God didn\’t give him even a space of one foot! We discover that after the Lord promised him, Canaan, he moved to Shechem, built an altar, then he moved south to bethel and also built another altar. A famine arose, and he moved to Egypt, then back to Canaan. Eventually, God entered a covenant with Abraham.

“Then the Lord said: Abram, you will live to an old age and die in peace. But I solemnly promise that your descendants will live as foreigners in a land that doesn’t belong to them. They will be forced into slavery and abused for four hundred years. But I will punish the nation that enslaves them, and they will leave with many possessions.” Genesis 15:13-15

At that time the Lord made an agreement with Abram and told him: I will give your descendants the land east of the Shihor River on the border of Egypt as far as the Euphrates River. They will possess the land of the Kenites, the Kenizzites, the Kadmonites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Rephaites, the Amorites, the Canaanites, the Girgashites, and the Jebusites. Genesis 15:18-21

God made a promise to Abraham to give him the Land of Canaan for an inheritance, but it was his descendants who eventually took possession of it.

God’s power has given us everything we need for life and godliness, through our knowing the One who called us to his own glory and goodness. By these he has given us valuable and superlatively great promises so that through them you might come to share in God’s nature and escape the corruption which evil desires have brought into the world. 2 Peter 1:3-4

God has given us valuable and superlatively great promises!

The word superlative means of highest quality or degree; that is to say, God has given us the best. God has given you the highest heaven can offer as promises!

A promise becomes valuable when the recipient makes a claim.

Until you are ready to possess your inheritance, it remains a promise!

God’s power has given us everything; it says everything, nothing missing.! Whatever you need for life is covered by God’s promises!

Every aspect of life, finances, marriage, relationship, security, and health, is all covered.

Whatever you need for godliness, to live above sin, walk in purity, live by faith, manifest the gifts of the spirit, and the character of Christ, is all covered by God’s superlative promises.
God’s promises cover everything you need to stay godly. It will remain a promise until you are ready to possess it.
“As the time drew near for the fulfillment of the promise God had made to Avraham, the number of our people in Egypt increased greatly.” Acts 7:17
There is a time for the fulfillment of the promise God has made to you!

The prodigal son wanted the promise before the set time; it hurt him. There are many things God has laid up for us; we must wait for its time of fulfillment!
