Sacrificial Lamb

Topic: Sacrificial Lamb

Text: Exodus 12:21-28

Key verse: Then Moses called all the elders of Israel together and said to them, “Go, pick out a lamb or young goat for each of your families, and slaughter the Passover animal.

When God speaks, it is with eternal perspectives!   As humans made in the image of God, we have his nature but we do not have eternity in view. God’s word proceeds from the depth of divine wisdom, any believer who will go far with God, must learn to walk in divine alignment to his instructions.

Have you been trying to rationalize God’s instructions? Does it have to make logical sense to you before you believe or obey it? Then you are in for surprises. From the Garden of Eden after the fall, God designed the redemption of man. It had to be by atonement. Blood sacrifice was the key to that redemption. Did God tell Adam the details? No. He would never have been able to understand or figure it out. Just the same way as, you cannot figure out why and how God will get the glory from all that you’ve been through.

That Lamb was revealed to Abraham on the Mount of Moriah, the life of that Lamb sacrificed for Isaac was his redemption. This lamb is the type we read about today. As Abraham heeded the word of the Lord to go to a Mount the Lord will choose to offer sacrifice, he did not figure it out, but he obeyed anyway. When Isaac asked, where his father’s blind faith would lead them, Abraham declared, “The Lord would provide”! It had to be Moriah, that\’s where the sacrificial lamb would be waiting.

God chose another Lamb, the Passover Lamb for the redemption of Israel from Egypt. All they had to do was obey. They did not need to understand the scientific possibility, or the rationality of the action!

Stop trying to figure God out! Stop questioning his wisdom! You mind is finite, but God is infinite! Let him be God in your life, simply obey his instructions and leave him to prove himself. God is love, merciful and kind. Whatever he does is always in your best interest from an eternal perspective! It had never been done before, no one was sure it would work, a simple act of obedience  in faith saved so many lives.

What has disobedience cost you? What has partial obedience cost you? What has procrastination cost you and your family? The instructions God gave Moses were specific and time bound. Any delay would have been fatal. What has God commanded you to do? Don’t delay anymore. It may not be convenient, fashionable or economical, but it’s in your best interest. God’s ways are not our ways. God’s ways are the ways of divine wisdom.

The people worshiped as they heard the word. They obeyed every letter of the word. They received full redemption from Egypt! There is no lamb to sacrifice today, but there’s sin to walk away from, there’s a habit to give up, there’s someone to forgive or maybe there’s a call to answer. Whatever God has commanded you to do   will save your life and that of others!
