Good To Great

Topic: Good To Great

Text: 1 Samuel 9:1-10

Key Verse: His son Saul was the most handsome man in Israel—head and shoulders taller than anyone else in the land. 1 Samuel 9:2

God has a plan for every life; your birthplace, family, and gifts are all designed to help you fulfill God’s purpose. God determined this purpose before your birth; you have to discover it to fulfill it.

“For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago”. – Ephesians 2:10

Saul was born into a wealthy family, and he was the most handsome man in Israel. Nothing more is said about his work or role in his community. If you write your bio today, what will it reveal about you?

He must have been a dutiful son to be called upon to go in search of his Father’s lost donkeys. That trip was supposed to be a search for animals, but it ended up discovering purpose.

It was a journey designed by God to move him from good to great, but he knew it not. As they continued searching for the donkeys, his focus changed to concern for his Father’s well-being, and he decided to turn back, without knowing he was a few days away from a destiny encounter.

Have you often turned back from completing God-given projects? Are you quick to get moved by what others think about you or about your work? It’s time to get back to the Father’s business.

He went on that mission with a servant who became a “destiny helper.” The servant encouraged him to seek spiritual help to discern the location of the donkeys.

Many believers do not see the role of spirituality in the workplace or business; they believe that God is not interested in their work or some feel they don’t need God as they can reason through their challenges. Yet when faced with difficult management situations, they seek the help of consultants or coaches.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take. – Proverbs 3:5-6

The book Good to Great by Jim Collins is a management book that teaches how to grow a successful company. The book highlights three main factors that transform a company from Good to Great as disciplined people, disciplined thought, and disciplined action.

Just as everyone desires growth in their business or the lives of their children, so God desires your movement from ordinary life to a more purpose-driven life.

What will a purpose-driven life look like to you? Where do you see God leading you to in the next few years? Who will go with you on that journey?

Step aside and look at your focus for this year; what is different? What progress do you seek? How will it impact the kingdom of God and have value in eternity?

God has a big picture we are invited to be part of, don’t live carelessly, watch your diet, habits, and relationships. Live righteously even if you are the last man standing because God steps into our lives to align us with destiny without notice.

Finally, change comes when people take action, ask God for wisdom and help as they commit to taking action in your movement forward.
