God’s Way 2

Topic: God’s way 2

Text: Exodus 3

Key verse: But Moses protested to God, “Who am I to appear before Pharaoh? Who am I to lead the people of Israel out of Egypt?”

It is often said that, what happens to you is not as important as what happens in you. I have come to believe that statement is true because of what l have experienced and what l have seen in the lives of several biblical and contemporary characters.

Moses left Egypt because of the fear of death, Pharaoh threatened to kill him. By the time we read the text today, that fear had grown to become a false belief about himself, in fact a mental strong hold because he kept protesting about the call, he doubted any good thing could happen with him again.

Moses no longer had confidence in his worth or abilities, because when he fled Egypt he lost everything. His identity, status, possession and self esteem.

As he sat by the well, he must have pondered so many things in his heart and simply resigned to fate in Midian. He married Zipporah and was content to  dwell with his father in law. Observe the name he gave his son, Gershom “I have been a foreigner in a foreign land.”

Failure in life often happens when we didn’t do things right, wrong timing or maybe we suffered from lack of adequate information about the situation. As we ponder these things  in the heart we end up believing some common lies about ourselves.

You are what you own.

You are who you know

You are  what you  know.

You are your past.

You are who you’ve raised

You are what you’ve experienced.

You are what you do.

All these are lies, lies from the enemy.

But Moses protested to God, “Who am I to appear before Pharaoh? Who am I to lead the people of Israel out of Egypt?”

He lost his identity. He saw himself as just a sojourner. He defined himself by his location.

The way you see or define yourself determines whether you will have a comeback or not.

The devil specialises at attacking people’s identity, and makes them define themselves based on the lies mentioned above.

God affirmed Moses by assuring him of his presence with him.

“God answered, “I will be with you.

Define yourself today by God’s presence in your life. You are not your failure, your loss, your education,  your family background etc.

You are a child of God!. You are God’s handiwork! You are fearfully and wonderfully made!

Grab your bible and search out your true identity. Fill your heart with truth and get rid of every lie.

As you embrace truth, confidence will be restored, hope will come alive again in your heart and you will begin to think right, talk right and live right.

Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life. Proverbs 4:23
