Topic: Life Support
Text: Psalm 139:8-10
Key verse: If I go up to heaven, you are there; if I go down to the grave, you are there.9 If I ride the wings of the morning, if I dwell by the farthest oceans, 10 even there your hand will guide me, and your strength will support me.
Life has seasons, just as we have emotional highs and lows. But no season is permanent. Each offers it own benefits and challenges. The presence of the Lord is a constant in every season.
Often we think that relocation to another city or country can fix our problems, sometimes we think a different marriage with another individual will give us all the joy we seek, but experience has shown that, many have made those moves and things didn’t necessarily turn out right.
Often times, the change needs to start in the inside of you first. If you carry a physical wound that has not been treated for a while, it festers and attracts flies. Similarly, when you carry heart wounds, you attract emotional flies, habits that make you vulnerable to predators and abusive people. You develop codependency tendencies that leave you helpless to make healthy choices.
You don’t need to run away to the ends of the earth to find love, Love is a person, and his name is Jesus. You don’t even need to look for him; he’s been looking for you.
If I go up to heaven, you are there; if I go down to the grave,[a] you are there.
Some people rely on substances to take them high to the heavens, and when the effect wears out, it draws them deep into the grave of depression, fear and torment. Even there, Jesus is present to help you. He is present to give you what you really need.
9 If I ride the wings of the morning,if I dwell by the farthest oceans,
You may choose to have all the fun that youths pursue, own and possess all the latest gadgets, most expensive homes, travel the world, and live in the most expensive neighborhoods, without the Prince of peace in your company, it will only amount to loneliness and emptiness.
God is reaching out to you now, with a request to hold you by the hand and guide you. The psalmist knew this by experience.
10 even there your hand will guide me, and your strength will support me.
God is here, not to condemn you, but to support you. He has come not to finish you, but to give you a fresh start
All you need to do is give it a try, just once. Believe it that God can fix things! He is a master at it! From Jacob to Rahab, Jephthah and Samson, even Ruth and Esther, have a story of how their broken lives ended up as Pieces of Art that only God could make.
Reach out to God like that thief on the cross; ask for help and watch God rise up to make all things beautiful, one layer at a time!
