Futility Of Human Reasoning

Topic: Futility of human reasoning

Text: 2 Kings 5:1-15

Key verse:

But Naaman became angry and stalked away. “I thought he would certainly come out to meet me!” he said. “I expected him to wave his hand over the leprosy and call on the name of the Lord his God and heal me! Verse 11

The scriptures has taught us that our weapons of warfare are effective in destroying human reasoning and false arguments, but do you believe it that human reasoning is in opposition to the will of God in spiritual warfare?

Reason is defined as the capacity of consciously making sense of things, applying logic, and adapting or justifying practices, institutions, and beliefs based on new or existing information.

Much as this definition of reason has several useful applications in decision making in many aspects of life, in spiritual warfare, it is not applicable.

Spiritual warfare does not make natural sense, it does not follow logic and success is not guaranteed by normal arithmetic values. A quick example that comes to mind is the battle led by Gideon against the Midianites, in that epic battle, God revealed that Less is More in spiritual warfare.

The Lord told Gideon, “With these 300 men I will rescue you and give you victory over the Midianites. Send all the others home.”

How on earth is there sense in sending 300 unarmed men to battle against thousands of Midianite soldiers? That is suicide, and no trained military general will take such a risk. See how the bible describes the enemy\’s army yet, Israel won that battle, how? God fought with them! The Lord will fight with you in Jesus name. Amen!

The armies of Midian, Amalek, and the people of the east had settled in the valley like a swarm of locusts. Their camels were like grains of sand on the seashore—too many to count!

The presence of God with you in any battle is what determines the victory. Joshua led the Israelites to battle against Jericho and Ai, the odds were against him in Jericho because of the impregnable wall, yet he won. But when they went to battle against a much smaller nation, they fled before the men of Ai because God withdrew from them due to Achan\’s sin. Secondly, human reasoning in warfare that, More guarantees Victory is a lie, because several examples in the scriptures reveal how God used the mighty men of David, Samson, Jephthah, even David  to perform supernatural feats in warfare that didn\’t depend on their number.

Reasoning relies on new or old evidence, but the ways of God are past finding out! A child of God must live in expectation that God can do anything without any precedence because he is omnipotent!  You cannot put God in a box to determine how he will bring salvation or victory to you in any warfare.

He is the man of war, let him decide when, how and with what the battle will be fought and won in your favour. Samson even used the jawbone of an ass to destroy the Philistines.

How did we arrive at the number of days to fast when faced with warfare, do you just copy others, or are you led by the spirit? God has no problem saving you with or without your fasting, if the glory will be taken by how many days you fasted, then its your battle not God’s.

Another classic example l will give you is in our text for today’s devotional, we see how human reasoning can actually hinder your miracle, and how false arguments blind you and prevent you from seeing the power of God in display in your favour.

Namaan was offended by God\’s method, it was degrading and unjustifiable, It didn\’t make sense at all. It had never happened before that anyone got healed of leprosy by bathing in that river, so there was no empirical evidence to support the idea. Hello! God is not man, stop looking for evidence, what happens in spiritual warfare is beyond what your five senses can understand. If you want to go with God, it must be by faith alone.

Note the highlighted words in this text for emphasis:  But Naaman became angry and stalked away. “I thought he would certainly come out to meet me!” he said. “I expected him to wave his hand over the leprosy and call on the name of the Lord his God and heal me!

In spiritual warfare, never go to battle relying on your thoughts or expectations about what God will do, be open to the miraculous. The bible is full of miracles, Jesus healed the blind men in different ways, the miracles of multiplication also happened in different ways, don\’t limit God by unbelief stemming from faulty belief systems and futile arguments.

Every problem does not require deliverance, every sickness is not healed instantaneously. Let God determine the outcome and take the glory.

What then is my part to play in this battle? Simply obey God’s servant or his instructions to you. Obey God’s word in faith!

But his officers tried to reason with him and said, “Sir, if the prophet had told you to do something very difficult, wouldn’t you have done it? So you should certainly obey him when he says simply, ‘Go and wash and be cured!’” This is what we will do in faith in this season, we will act on these two verses of scriptures and trust God for victory.

We use God’s mighty weapons, not worldly weapons, to knock down the strongholds of human reasoning and to destroy false arguments.  We destroy every proud obstacle that keeps people from knowing God*. We capture their rebellious thoughts and teach them to obey Christ.  2 Corinthians 10:4-5

We will dislodge the devil from our camps  and take the battle to the gates. Identify the strongholds of human reasoning in your life, false arguments you have used to oppose God’s ideas, obstacles to the supernatural created by your pride because of your status in society or your financial achievements, and take hold of rebellious thoughts that make you say…” I will do it my way”. Now expose these devices of the enemy, ask the Holy Spirit to help you, then write them down.  Use God’s word , the sword of the spirit to overrule every one of them. Hallelujah!  The victory is guaranteed!

And they have defeated him by the blood of the Lamb and by their testimony. And they did not love their lives so much that they were afraid to die. Revelation 12:11

We have defeated him already, so be encouraged your victory is settled already. Our weapon in this battle is the power of the blood of Jesus Christ, our testimony and confession of the word, and our resolve not to fear the devil or his agents!

Are you stirred up to fight? Then put your mind in order before you engage. Pick your smooth stones like David for the battle against your Goliath, get relevant scriptures to deal with everything that has held you captive, its time to walk in freedom and fullness of Joy!

God is with you, fear not! Hallelujah!
