Topic: Enforcing The Will Of God

Text: Matthew 6:9-10

Key Verse: May your Kingdom come; may your will be done on Earth as it is in heaven. – Matthew 6:10 GNT

There is confidence and boldness in prayer when the will of God is known. God’s will is a revelation of what heaven wants; praying for that will to be done on Earth is to impose that will on every contrary manifestation.

We have courage in God’s presence because we are sure that he hears us if we ask him for anything that is according to his will. – 1 John 5:14 GNT

How do we know God’s will? Through intimacy, the will of God is revealed.

Two days later, there was a wedding in the town of Cana in Galilee. Jesus’ mother was there, and Jesus and his disciples had also been invited to the wedding. When the wine had been given out, Jesus’ mother said to him, “They are out of wine.” You must not tell me what to do,” Jesus replied. “My time has not yet come.” Jesus’ mother then told the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.” – John 2:1-5 GNT

The couple who had a wedding did not know their wine had run out and did not know that their guest Jesus could provide a solution. But, Mary, the mother of Jesus, knew these facts due to her relationship and intimacy with Jesus. She was able to secure a miracle for the couple.

Knowledge of God’s will equips us to stand in the gap for others in prayer.

Abraham approached the Lord and asked, “Are you going to destroy the innocent with the guilty? If there are fifty innocent people in the city, will you destroy the whole city? Won’t you spare it to save the fifty? Surely you won’t kill the innocent with the guilty. That’s impossible! You can’t do that. If you did, the innocent would be punished along with the guilty. That is impossible. The judge of all the Earth has to act justly.” The Lord answered, “If I find fifty innocent people in Sodom, I will spare the whole city for their sake.” – Genesis 18:23-26 GNT

Believers will be given the power to perform miracles: they will drive out demons in my name; they will speak in strange tongues; if they pick up snakes or drink any poison, they will not be harmed; they will place their hands on sick people, and these will get well.” – Mark 16:17-18 GNT.

Paul knew that it was the will of God for believers to heal the sick by the power of the Holy Spirit, so when he encountered sick people, he confidently prayed for them, and they received their healing. If you know the will of God you must demand its enforcement wherever you are.

Not far from that place were some fields that belonged to Publius, the chief of the island. He welcomed us kindly, and for three days, we were his guests. Publius’ Father was in bed, sick with fever and dysentery. Paul went into his room, prayed, placed his hands on him, and healed him. When this happened, all the other sick people on the island came and were healed. They gave us many gifts, and when we sailed, they put on board what we needed for the voyage. – Acts 28:7-10 GNT

Praying for God’s will delivers us from boasting about the future. If you expect God’s will and not necessarily what you want, then your plans should accommodate interruptions.

Now listen to me, you that say, “Today or tomorrow we will travel to a certain city, where we will stay a year and go into business and make a lot of money.” What you should say is this: “If the Lord is willing, we will live and do this or that.” But now you are proud, and you boast; all such boasting is wrong. – James 4:13,15-16 GNT

Knowing God’s will gives us the confidence to contend for it. We contend against the powers and authorities that want to deny us the abundant life Jesus has already paid for. Knowing how to engage in prayer against them gives us victory and access to our inheritance. Daniel had to contend for the captivity to end when he discovered from the books of prophecy the time it ought to occur.

Daniel wrote: Some years later, Darius the Mede, who was the son of Xerxes, had become king of Babylonia. And during his first year as king, I found out from studying the writings of the prophets that the Lord had said to Jeremiah, “Jerusalem will lie in ruins for 70 years.” Daniel 9:2(CEV)

My little group of disciples, don’t be afraid! Your Father wants to give you the kingdom. – Luke 12:32 CEV

A thief comes only to rob, kill, and destroy. I came so that everyone would have life and have it to its fullest. – John 10:10 CEV

Put on all the armor that God gives, so you can defend yourself against the devil’s tricks. We are not fighting against humans. We are fighting against forces and authorities and rulers of darkness and powers in the spiritual world. So put on all the armor that God gives. Then when that evil day comes, you will be able to defend yourself. And when the battle is over, you will still be standing firm. – Ephesians 6:11-13

Once, l had a dream where l was given a contract to work for an institution; in that dream, l told the person l was not qualified for that job; l gave him reasons to disqualify me, and he insisted that the job was mine. I woke up from sleep realizing that God’s will was to raise the bar in the type of organizations l served, but l had been limiting myself by my beliefs. I decided to pray differently about my business, expectations, and what l could do.

That week the Lord ordered my steps to meet an opportunity that remains the single largest order l have done in business. The understanding of the will of God changed my prayer language and results. I pray your eyes open to discern the fullness of God’s will for the matter you are concerned about in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Prayer

Father, teach us to pray according to your will so we can have the things that belong to us and do the things you want us to accomplish on Earth, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
