Covenant Responsibilities

Topic : Covenant Responsibilities

Text: Exodus 4:20-26

Key verse: On the way to Egypt, at a place where Moses and his family had stopped for the night, the Lord confronted him and was about to kill him.

What assumptions have you made about God? What do you believe about the ways of God? What is more important to God, the assignment or the man?

The covenant God made with Abraham had a token, the circumcision of all male children. From generation to generation, every male child must be circumcised on the eighth day after his birth. This applies not only to members of your family but also to the servants born in your household and the foreign-born servants whom you have purchased.

God\’s requirement was specific, for those who want to be in a covenant relationship with him. Yet Moses chose to ignore the circumcision of his son.

Probably he just postponed doing it till a more opportune time. Or it could also be that his wife a Midianite , did not approve of the exercise, not seeing the value or relevance to honour such a religious tradition.

Whatever the reasons may have been, one thing is obvious, God will not hesitate to confront you if  any act of disobedience or rebellion is present in your life as you continue in his service.

Failure to enforce the will of God in your home, disqualifies you from leadership in the kingdom. You may not face  physical death, but your intimacy with God, your access to stand before him boldly, can be cut off. Moses faced impending death, even though he had the rod of God with him.

The way of holiness cannot be comprised for the assignment.Do you sense God resisting you? Do you feel you have been swimming against the tide for too long? Maybe you need to examine your covenant responsibilities, are you keeping to the terms?

Satan is able to resist a believer who has unresolved issues with God. Moses knew the requirements of the covenant, communicated it, but failed to enforce  it.

And he shewed me Joshua the high priest standing before the angel of the Lord, and Satan standing at his right hand to resist him. Zec.3:1

Examine the word of God, walk in complete obedience to his ways and you will find rest for your soul. God will never compromise holiness for religious activity!

Prayer: Father teach me your ways of righteousness and holiness, deliver me from any compromise in my private and public life in Jesus name. Amen
