Topic: Refusing To Be Comforted
Text: Matthew 2: 16-18
Key verse: A sound was heard in Ramah, weeping and much lament. Rachel weeping for her children, Rachel refusing all solace, Her children gone, dead and buried. Verse 18
The fall of man was because he fell for lust of the flesh, lust of the eyes and pride of life. Herod felt threatened by the birth of a new born king. He decided to eliminate all male boys about the age of baby Jesus.
Evil desires cause men to do evil against others, this always causes pain, tears and much lamentation.
God is never the author of suffering, but he can intervene to deliver his people and establish his divine purpose on the earth.
In our key verse, we see a mother refusing comfort and solace. Weeping and lamentation are ways of expressing our pain and getting relieve.
The Holy Spirit comes along also to provide comfort. Never refuse comfort.
There are things we cannot undo, like wars, conflicts, losses and all kinds of tragedies. It is natural and normal to grieve at these times. But grief must not be over extended.
Weeping may endure for the night but joy comes in the morning. Expect the morning!!!
