A VERSE AT A TIME

TOPIC: RESTORED TO TRUE VALUE AND POSITION

TEXT: Matthew 21:1-10

KEY VERSE: “Tell the people of Zion, ‘Now your King is coming to you. He is humble and riding on a donkey. He is riding on a young donkey, born from a work animal.'” Matthew 21:5. 

Our lives have seasons when we are relegated to the background and seem forgotten. Sometimes, the things we used to do are taken away from us, making it look as if we have lost our value and significance. No one calls us for any assignment, we are not even invited to the events we used to frequent, and we have lost our value and position. But take heart, for the good news is here! This verse speaks directly to our hearts, reminding us that even in our lowest moments, our King will restore us to our actual value and position. 

Whether you have lost your identity or place due to a mistake, the enemy’s schemes, or maybe your time of manifestation has yet to come, the King is coming for you. This is the encouragement we all find in today’s devotion.

Life can be challenging; sometimes, we feel forgotten, overlooked, and undervalued. Maybe you’ve lost your identity, or circumstances have conspired against you, leaving you confined and limited. If that’s you, I have good news. Like the donkey in the story, your time of liberation and recognition is coming. What God has in store for you is more honourable than you can imagine.

The disciples who untied the donkey had a one-time assignment to release the animals for their service to Jesus. Zephaniah had prophesied this for many years, but their obedience was the key to its fulfilment. 

You see, your actual value and your circumstances do not define potential. Regardless of what you’re going through, you have worth and significance, and you matter. Whether you have faced divorce, bankruptcy or even the loss of a ministry, the King is coming for you and will restore you to your rightful place. 

So, don’t give up hope, and don’t let discouragement overwhelm you. Instead, hold onto the promise of Zechariah 9:9, which says, “Your King comes to you. He will save you because he does everything well.” The King is coming, and He will do everything well. Trust Him and believe that your time of restoration is at hand.

Mephiboseth was born into royalty; the family had great potential because his grandfather was the first King of Israel, but life happened, and the tables turned. An accident cost him the use of his legs; his Father and grandfather died the same day, making him live as a fugitive for fear of being killed. David took over the kingdom from his family, and all he had left was a servant, Ziba, who lived in affluence at his expense.

One day, God reminded David of his covenant with Jonathan. David restored Mephiboseth to the King’s table, and all his assets were recovered and returned to him. All these happened because he was still royalty, notwithstanding his disability. His Father, Jonathan, had made a covenant with David in his favour. When the King remembers you, he restores your years of grief and loss in a day.

Many descendants of Abraham are bound in unhealthy relationships and diseases and locked away in oppressive communities. Jesus asked a profound question that is still relevant today. Is this not the right time for them to be free? Is this not a good time to restore their value and position by removing the cause of pain? God wants to uncover you and show the world who he has made you to be.

This woman that I healed is a true descendant of Abraham. But Satan has held her for 18 years. Surely, it is not wrong for her to be made free from her sickness on a Sabbath day!” Luke 13:16(ERV)

God has a purpose for your life: to set free those who are bound. Many people may be waiting to be untied and released to serve Jesus, but they are waiting for you. Like the colt and donkey, who became significant only after they started serving Jesus, your true potential will be revealed when you stop accepting every self-promoting assignment and focus on promoting Jesus.

Tamar, King David’s daughter, was abused by her brother; she ended up living in sorrow because her Father did not address her case. Your case is different; your King is coming. Jabez had a sorrowful life but didn’t wait for anyone else to go to his aid; he cried to God because he believed God had the power and willingness to change his story. 

Jabez prayed to the God of Israel and said, “I pray that you would bless me and give me more land! Be near me and don’t let anyone hurt me! Then I will not have any pain.” God gave Jabez what he asked for. 1Chronicles 4:10(ERV)

We have the privilege of praying for a new beginning or restoration. God still answers prayer and desires to see your glory revealed. Isn’t it amazing how the donkey and colt became the centre of attraction because they served Jesus? God has invited you to a life of virtue and glory, so don’t settle for less.

We have everything we need to live a life that pleases God. It was all given to us by God’s own power, when we learned he had invited us to share in his wonderful goodness. 2 Peter 1:3(CEV)

If you are tired from carrying heavy burdens, come to me, and I will give you rest. Matthew 11:28(CEV)
