A LIFE OF GREATER WORKS

A VERSE AT A TIME

TOPIC: A LIFE OF GREATER WORKS

TEXT: JOHN 14:1-21

KEY VERSE: “I tell you the truth, anyone who believes in me will do the same works I have done, and even greater works because I am going to be with the Father. JOHN 14:12(NLT)

God created humans to live a fruitful, abundant life while multiplying and having dominion over the earth. However, sin entered the world and separated humanity from God’s plan. To restore this plan, Jesus sacrificed himself on the cross, taking on the sins of humanity. Through his sacrifice, Jesus paid the price for humans to regain the authority that God had given them in the Garden of Eden. This authority was restored in the name of Jesus, enabling believers to receive all things from the Father. ( Matthew 28:18-20, 2 Peter 1:3)

“The coming of the Son of Man can be illustrated by the story of a man going on a long trip. When he left home, he gave each of his slaves instructions about the work they were to do, and he told the gatekeeper to watch for his return. You, too, must keep watch! For you don’t know when the master of the household will return—in the evening, at midnight, before dawn, or at daybreak. Mark 13:34-35(NLT)

The authority we have received from the Lord is to carry out the work he has given each of us. We would be rewarded for these tasks according to the grace or gift we have all received. (Matthew 25:14-30)

Apostle Paul explains in his letters to the Ephesians and Romans that every person is destined for a life of good deeds.

In his grace, God has given us different gifts for doing certain things well. So if God has given you the ability to prophesy, speak out with as much faith as God has given you. If your gift is serving others, serve them well. If you are a teacher, teach well. If your gift is to encourage others, be encouraging. If it is giving, give generously. If God has given you leadership ability, take the responsibility seriously. And if you have a gift for showing kindness to others, do it gladly. Romans 12:6-8

For we are God’s [own] handiwork (His workmanship), recreated in Christ Jesus, [born anew] that we may do those good works which God predestined (planned beforehand) for us [taking paths which He prepared ahead of time], that we should walk in them [living the good life which He prearranged and made ready for us to live].Ephesians 2:10(AMPC)

God has a purpose for each of our lives, and when we do the work we were created for, He wants to fill our days with excitement and fruitful results. Therefore, it’s important to rely on the guidance of the Holy Spirit and make each day count. Remember, God has preplanned a unique plan for each of us, and we should strive to do greater works than even Jesus did.

Prayer

  1. Thank you, Father, for the plans you have for me.
  2. Thank you for restoring the blessing we need to be fruitful and have results in our work.
  3. Thank you for the gift of the Holy Spirit, who leads, guides and empowers us for a life of service.
  4. Open my eyes to see the opportunities around me for bearing fruit.
  5. Grant me the faith to believe you for these miraculous acts of service in my home, work, and community.
