Saved With Your Family

Topic: Saved With Your Family

Text: Joshua 6:17-25(GNT)

The city and everything in it must be totally destroyed as an offering to the Lord. Only the prostitute Rahab and her household will be spared, because she hid our spies. 18 But you are not to take anything that is to be destroyed; if you do, you will bring trouble and destruction on the Israelite camp. 19 Everything made of silver, gold, bronze, or iron is set apart for the Lord. It is to be put in the Lord’s treasury.”
So the priests blew the trumpets. As soon as the people heard it, they gave a loud shout, and the walls collapsed. Then all the army went straight up the hill into the city and captured it. With their swords they killed everyone in the city, men and women, young and old. They also killed the cattle, sheep, and donkeys.
Joshua then told the two men who had served as spies, “Go into the prostitute’s house, and bring her and her family out, as you promised her.” So they went and brought Rahab out, along with her father and mother, her brothers, and the rest of her family. They took them all, family and slaves, to safety near the Israelite camp. Then they set fire to the city and burned it to the ground, along with everything in it, except the things made of gold, silver, bronze, and iron, which they took and put in the Lord’s treasury. But Joshua spared the lives of the prostitute Rahab and all her relatives because she had hidden the two spies that he had sent to Jericho. (Her descendants have lived in Israel to this day.)

Key Verse: The city and everything in it must be totally destroyed as an offering to the Lord. Only the prostitute Rahab and her household will be spared because she hid our spies.* Joshua 6:17
As we contend for our inheritance, the first thing to pursue is our spiritual inheritance.

The first promise Jesus made is in John 1:12, becoming a son of God is the basis of the relationship that entitles you to an inheritance in God’s family.

The second promise l want to bring to your attention is in John 3:16, For God loved the world so much that he gave his only Son so that everyone who believes in him may not die but have eternal life..the promise of eternal life.

What is the value of inheritance if you are not alive to enjoy it? Eternal life is the guarantee of a meaningful heritage.

In our text today, we see Joshua conformed to Rahab and her family; this was to fulfill a promise made to her in Joshua 2:14.

She had requested it from the spies in Joshua 2 verse 12-13
… Now swear by him that you will treat my family as kindly as I have treated you, and give me some sign that I can trust you. Promise me that you will save my father and mother, my brothers and sisters, and all their families! Don’t let us be killed!”

Can you see the heart of a prostitute? She cared so much for her relatives? Do you care about the eternal destiny of your own family and relatives?
Are you going to be happy to make heaven alone? Today is the day to change their situation by bringing them into the inheritance.

What promise do we have to stand upon for this mission to get our family members saved?

Psalms 2:8 Ask, and I will give you all the nations; the whole earth will be yours.

They answered, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved—you and your family.” Acts 16:31
Now is the time to ask of the Lord for your family members.

PRAYER
Let us thank the Lord for these promises.

Begin to ask the Lord to give you the life and salvation of your family in Jesus’ name.

Father, l believe that Jesus is my saviour; make my family believe it too
Father, l compel my relatives to come into the ark, which is Jesus, while it is possible.

Father, reach every member of my family with the gospel message wherever in the world they live in Jesus’ name.

I release them from every spiritual blindness, keeping them in bondage in Jesus’ name.

  1. Thank you for this reminder that prayer for loved ones also is an act of faith. Rahab demonstrated her belief in action (works)- protecting the spies, and asking (praying) for a later redemption for herself and her family.
