It Is A Setup

Topic: It Is A Setup

Text: 1 Samuel 9:20-27
Key Verse: Then Samuel told the cook, “I gave you the best piece of meat and told you to set it aside. Bring it here now.” The cook brought the meat over and set it down in front of Saul. “This is for you,” Samuel told him. “Go ahead and eat it. I had this piece saved especially for you, and I invited these guests to eat with you.” After Saul and Samuel had finished eating, – 1 Samuel 9:23 CEV

The experience of Saul in our text today is a perfect confirmation of the scriptures in Romans 8:28, that all things work together for our good though we often do not see the good in it till the end.

And we know [with great confidence] that God [who is deeply concerned about us] causes all things to work together [as a plan] for good for those who love God, to those who are called according to His plan and purpose. – Romans 8:28 AMP

The donkey search was a divine set up to move Saul from his comfort zone to his next assignment and reservations.

I believe that our lives as God’s children will play out like a movie script if we listen to the Holy Spirit and make the right choices at the right time.

Ahead of time, God had spoken to Samuel in response to the need of the children of Israel. Israel prayed and cried to God for a king; God heard and searched for the right man for the job. He found and chose Saul, and the next thing was how to get him to the place where he would be commissioned.

The life storms we pass through are not an end in themselves but just a passage from one season to another. These storms don’t come from God, but God uses them for his purposes. I remember a song titled, God moves mysteriously by Jeremy Riddle; it is packed with wisdom about the ways of God. These are the lyrics of the first stanza.

God moves in a mysterious way His wonders to perform He plants His footsteps in the sea And rides upon the storm.

There is something of relevance in identifying the place of divine assignment. God had the word for Saul, but he had to go up to the high place. Sometimes our selection might require us to make a physical move to the location with provision.

Nothing takes God unawares; He is never in a hurry to prepare for his children’s needs; he works according to His plans. God had already prepared the place of honor for Saul, but he had to go in search of the word of God to locate that honor.
We have to trust the wisdom and timing of God for our provision; Saul rested and refreshed himself from the troubles and travail of his search for many days. The problem that took him out of his home settled, but more than that, he found God, his purpose, and a new vista opened for him into royalty.

What are you searching for this year? Are you in pursuit of things or the purpose of God? Have you invited the Lord into that situation to guide and direct you to the greater meaning behind the challenge?

For we are His workmanship [His own masterwork, a work of art], created in Christ Jesus [reborn from above—spiritually transformed, renewed, ready to be used] for good works, which God prepared [for us] beforehand [taking paths which He set] so that we would walk in them [living the good life which He prearranged and made ready for us]. – Ephesians 2:10

Believe him today; there is a place where reservations have been made for you, that is where your word is; Abraham had to find the right mountain to offer Issac as a sacrifice; that was where the ram was caught and held as a substitute.

The provision made for Saul was a significant portion, more than he had imagined or could have asked for. He even felt unqualified for the kind of things Samuel was saying about him and his future. God has better things in store for you. Stay in obedience to God’s Word, be expectant, and watch God move in your favor.

Now to Him who can [carry out His purpose and] do superabundantly more than all that we dare ask or think [infinitely beyond our greatest prayers, hopes, or dreams], according to His power that is at work within us – Ephesians 3:20

Are you an answer to God’s need? Can God commit a task into your hand for the good of the kingdom? Everyone was not invited to that high place, only those who had a role to play. If you want to enjoy divine setup, be relevant in kingdom business.

Prayer

Father, l thank you for your encouraging word today, my life journey is not an accident, and your purposes will work out in my favor in the end. Help me make the right choices that lead me to the prepared place, where provision is, help me keep my eyes on being a solution to needs in the kingdom rather than seeking honor, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
