Topic: Walk Towards Destiny
Text: 1 Samuel 9:1-10
Key Verse: Now, the donkeys of Kish, Saul’s Father, had wandered off and were lost. Kish said to his son Saul, “Please take one of the servants with you and arise, go look for the donkeys.” – 1 Samuel 9:3 AMP
From the beginning of the Earth, God’s plan for man included work. After creating the earth, God prepared a garden and placed man in it to tend and keep it. The man was designed to work.
And God blessed them, and God said unto them, “Be fruitful and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it; and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.” – Genesis 1:28
This verse of Scripture refers to the divine mandate; it takes a lot of hard work to be fruitful, whether for plants, animals, or man. The belief that work is punishment is wrong and misleading. When you engage in work, you utilize God’s gift in your life, and you produce results that meet the need of others. People reward you when you solve their problems. Hard work pays, and working smart pays better. Get more skills and tools to do more this year.
Multiplying resources, results, or relationships takes time and effort; what is that dream in your heart? What is that desired outcome you have been praying for? Are you clear about the steps to take towards it? God wants you to have them, but He has planned to take responsibility and work towards it.
For it is God who worketh in you, both to will and to do of His good pleasure. – Philippians 2:13
God had a plan to elevate Saul in Israel from obscurity to prominence, but the process originated from obedience to his Father’s instruction. Do you struggle with the act of obedience to others at home, in the workplace, and in society? Then, that is the first enemy to subdue this year. Disobedience is a spirit; if it has taken hold of you, fight for your liberty before it denies you your destiny.
You followed the ways of this world and obeyed the devil. He rules the world, and his spirit has power over everyone who doesn’t obey God. – Ephesians 2:2 CEV
Saul’s obedience was prompt without complaints or questions; similarly, Jesus obeyed the Father and went to the Cross, that step earned him an eternal place of authority.
Christ was humble. He obeyed God and even died on a cross. Then God gave Christ the highest place and honored his name above all others. – Philippians 2:8-9 CEV
When working in obedience, results come in doses and stages. Saul had to travel to several towns in pursuit of the donkeys, he could have returned from the first or second town, but he didn’t. How often have you tried to obey God on a project, and you have not seen a favorable outcome? Isaac had a similar experience until he dug the well called Rehoboth.
Finally, they dug one more well. There was no quarreling this time, and the well was named “Lots of Room” because the Lord had given them room and would make them very successful. – Genesis 26:22
This year, continue in obedience till you find, like Isaac, that well called “Lots of room.”
Your obedience might take you from one city to the other, one job to another, but be assured that you are closer to destiny than when you started.
Saul did not take the journey alone; his Father asked him to choose a servant to go with. The choice was his, and in the text, you can see he made the right decision. How do you pick relationships to invest in? Who is your closest associate? Destinies have been destroyed; dreams have been buried when people choose the wrong companions. Prayerfully review your relationships, find the courage to walk away from toxic and limiting ones, invest in quality people who have the same values, and are committed to your vision.
Blessed [fortunate, prosperous, and favored by God] is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked [following their advice and example], Nor stand in the path of sinners, Nor sit [down to rest] in the seat of scoffers (ridiculers). – Psalm 1:1AMP
The servant Saul picked was not just supportive but had something to offer in the relationship. Surround yourself with people of spiritual value who know more about God than you.
Don’t always hang out with people you can control and manipulate. Choose, people of godly wisdom, courage, and integrity, and your journey to destiny will be smoother than you imagined in Jesus’ name.
Prayer
Father, thank you for you have a plan for my life; no assignment from you is a mistake; l believe it is all part of the process to give me a future and hope.
Forgive me for my disobedience to your word, forgive me for all the abandoned tasks, even forgive me for the times l murmured and complained as l obeyed you, l repent of them, l regret them, and ask for mercy in Jesus’ name. Amen.
