Weapon Of Worship

Topic: Weapon of worship

Text: 2 Chronicles 20

Key verse: Then King Jehoshaphat bowed low with his face to the ground. And all the people of Judah and Jerusalem did the same, worshiping the Lord. 2 Chronicles 20:18

Victory in spiritual warfare for the believer is dependent on submission to God. James gave us the secret earlier discussed in our previous devotions. So then, submit yourselves to God. Resist the devil, and he will run away from you. James 4:7

When the devil gangs up against you, or comes at you from all sides, it is not time to war with worldly weapons, but time to change gear and put on the spiritual armor of God. Jehoshaphat as king was overwhelmed by the sheer size of the armies coming against him in battle, the report his men brought about the battle was producing fear instead of faith. Jehoshaphat was terrified by this news and begged the Lord for guidance. He also ordered everyone in Judah to begin fasting.

When you are overwhelmed by an evil report concerning your health, business, or ministry where do you turn? Who do you call? Many of us will first call our unbelieving relatives for advice, confide in our idol-worshipping colleagues for help until the case becomes complicated before we turn to God. The religious ones will just jump in and start binding and loosing, or send for prayer books and start reciting prayers whereas the heart is full of fear. This is doing warfare the wrong way.

Humanly speaking, Jehoshaphat was outnumbered, both in men and weaponry. The natural thing to do was to send an emissary and ask for mercy and surrender to the enemy. Some other kings would have gone into allegiance with foreign nations to seek for help. All these strategies are human reasonings. Our weapons are designed to counter human reasoning and false arguments.

We use God’s mighty weapons, not worldly weapons, to knock down the strongholds of human reasoning and to destroy false arguments. 2 Corinthians 10: 4 Jehoshaphat bowed in submission to God as he and his people worshipped. That was a sign of faith in God’s ability and reliance on his help. He ordered the people to fast, human reasoning will prefer that they eat and have the strength to fight. He then prayed and reminded God of his promises to his people.

They said, ‘Whenever we are faced with any calamity such as war,[d] plague, or famine, we can come to stand in your presence before this Temple where your name is honored. We can cry out to you to save us, and you will hear us and rescue us.’

He lifted the sword of the spirit and the shield of faith against the enemy. Then the Spirit of the Lord spoke and assured them of God’s presence with them. Any battle you engage in without the Lord going with you is a risk not worth taking. Wait to receive instruction and direction, don’t make haste unnecessarily.

I have observed something else under the sun. The fastest runner doesn’t always win the race, and the strongest warrior doesn’t always win the battle. The wise sometimes go hungry, and the skillful are not necessarily wealthy. And those who are educated don’t always lead successful lives. It is all decided by chance, by being in the right place at the right time. Ecc. 9:11

Jehoshaphat believed the word of God and went out to battle relying only on the instrument of praise!

At the very moment they began to sing and give praise, the Lord caused the armies of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir to start fighting among themselves. God took over the battle, Jehoshaphat and the Jews didn’t have to stress themselves, the enemies fought each other to death. Then the Lord compensated his people with abundant riches, “divine compensation ” for their trouble.

King Jehoshaphat and his men went out to gather the plunder. They found vast amounts of equipment, clothing, and other valuables—more than they could carry. There was so much plunder that it took them three days just to collect it all!

The place of their burial turned to a valley of blessing. It’s your time to try praise warfare, against all the gang ups against your marriage, ministry, family, and finances. Praise and worship your way till you arrive at the valley of blessings. Don’t mind the signs you are seeing or hearing. Miracle begets miracle, key into this testimony and your testimony will be the next in Jesus’ name. Amen.

If you can’t sing, get a minstrel to assist, play worship music, soak yourself in it, completely immerse your thoughts in God’s praise and watch your faith rise against the enemy.

It is time to defend your championship title! Arise!
