Overcome Feelings Of Inadequacy

Topic: Overcome feelings of inadequacy

Text: 1 Samuel 10: 1-27

Key verse:  So they asked the Lord, “Where is he?”And the Lord replied, “He is hiding among the baggage.”

God calls imperfect men for divine assignments but he enables them to become vessels unto honour. From the fall of man, everyone who God used always had limitations in one way or the other, but God calls them anyway first to transform and equip them to fit the assignment.  God choose Saul to be the first King over Israel and gave him several signs to assure him of the supernatural presence of God with him. He received a new heart and prophesied even though he was not a prophet. On the day he was to be presented to Israel, he ran away to hide.

Even though he had the physical stature that made him stand out and the evidence of the Spirit of God upon him, still he lacked confidence in himself and his ability to serve as king. The outcome of his fear made some scoundrels despise him and refuse to submit to his leadership.

Fear manifests as low self esteem and inferiority complex in many believers, they struggle to take up the responsibilities God has given them and they are quick to complain about those they perceive do not accept them.

The key to these feelings of inadequacy is to devote time to build up yourself in the knowledge of God and believe in what the scripture says about your identity in Christ. Anyone who God calls receives not just power for service but authority.

*\”But to as many as did receive and welcome Him, He gave the right [the authority, the privilege] to become children of God, that is, to those who believe in (adhere to, trust in, and rely on) His name\”* John 1:12 (Amp)

Authority is defined as the power or right to give orders, make decisions, and enforce obedience. A man chosen by God has the power to give orders and enforce obedience in God\’s name. People will submit not just because of who he is but rather because of who he represents. Authority confers upon a man the glory of the position he occupies. When you speak from a position of authority you are heads above those you lead.

To overcome fear, a believer must know his identity, rights and privileges in God. Satan will always attack the fact that a believer has been raised above him, and so when you are ignorant of your position as the son of God, the agents of the devil will continue to resist or rebel against you.

Satan challenged the right of Jesus to be the son of God when he tempted him in the wilderness, and Jesus overcame by the word. You will overcome by standing on who the Word says you are.

Satan will try to use intimidation to discourage you from stepping out and taking charge, but the key to victory is performance. As soon as Saul led them in victory against the Ammonites no one dared to defy him.

Then the people exclaimed to Samuel,

“Now where are those men who said, ‘Why should Saul rule over us?’ Bring them here, and we will kill them!” 1 Sam 11:12

See yourself as God sees you; believe in yourself that God has qualified you. Do not rest on your natural abilities but rather let your confidence be on the presence of God in your life and the position God has placed you as a son of God. Do you know you are seated in heavenly places with Christ? Do you know the power in the name of Jesus in your mouth? An heir that is a child cannot appropriate his inheritance, so grow up, get wise, be informed about how the kingdom operates and enforce your victory wherever you go.

If God believes in you, then believe in yourself!

Saul his behind the baggage, where are you hiding? People hide behind their lack of formal education, their financial status or their physical looks, but the list of the heroes of Faith in Hebrews chapter 11 those not mention their natural qualifications but rather their acts of faith.

If you have suffered rejection because of this fear, it’s time to forgive those who hurt you, and work on your weaknesses. Ask the Lord for help and watch him transform you through the infilling of the Holy Spirit. Peter fled before Pentecost, but when the Spirit came upon him, he rose and defended his faith and many believed because of him.
